A duo of Icelandic dancers and choreographers based in Brussels, Inga and Rosa, asked me to design the scenography for the piece they were preparing. Their piece is titled The Valley, as a reference to the uncanny valley notion developed by Masahiro Mori. He calls the Uncanny Valley the zone where we get disturbed by the resemblance of a machine to the human body.

Our cooperation started while the piece was still in the early stages of its development. As they were going to tour internationally with the piece, the main demand of the dancer was that I wood create something not too pricy and handy to travel with. Echoing the mechanic movements of the dancers and the mix between natural and artificial of the story.

I then decided to build a modular light landscape, made of PVC pipes and neon tubes. In the background, two white mountains frame the back of the Valley.
